The Junior Wrangler program is for youth ages 14 and up. It is geared towards youth with some equine experience or with a strong desire to learn about horses and horse back riding. This program is free to the participants but will require them to make a commitment to helping Long View ranch for different events involving the horses and horse activities through out the coming year. Our desire at Long View is to train local youth and give them a great knowledge of horses and horsemanship so they can help represent LVR in different groups and activities we offer through the year. This program will be filled though an application process due to the responsibility and roll this position represents for the camp and ministry. If the participant misses more than 3 training sessions, they will be dropped from the program with the option to rejoin during the next training group. There will be a maximum of 12 Junior Wranglers at one time. The training will include an 8 week (once a week) training program and then follow up monthly trainings. There will be the option for some field trips to horse events to expose the kids to different disciplines of horsemanship (Horse shows, barrel racing, roping competitions, dressage events, etc).

Training will include:

-Horse Safety

-Horse Terminology

-Horse Care (including herd management, feed, treatment, etc)

-Understanding different breeds and disciplines

-Beginner to intermediate / advanced riding both in a ring and trail

-Understanding tack, proper fitting to a horse, bits and functions, etc

-Horse conformation / form verses function

-Learning different disciplines of riding (jumping, barrel racing, etc)

-Depending on the kids and size of group, there will be the ability to possibly show the horses or do a drill team that would represent LVR
